A community volunteer supports counsellors and campers during STEM Camp activities. Counsellors can be as young as fifteen (15) years of age but are typically eighteen (18) to twenty-three (23). Some counsellors come to STEM Camp with experience supervising or working with children, but many do not. A community volunteer can help staff learn how to work with children by guiding them along this path. They should demonstrate enthusiasm and positivity and possess an outgoing and engaging personality.
STEM Camp will train the community volunteers on its summer camp best practices. This will include many facets of camp including, but not limited to running STEM Games during before and aftercare, camper supervision, conducting activities and much more. The community volunteer is a helping hand to the staff onsite but can also serve as a mentor and a calming influence in times of need. The community volunteer position is an amazing opportunity to assist the next generation of young people in their journey toward their first full-time positions in Canada’s workforce.
